The Palo Alto Group pioneered unique ways for swiftly interpreting relational and contextual directives and restrictions inherent in how individuals communicate about the difficulty they are facing in their Communication Theory Based Family and Brief Therapy. This example will show how a therapist employs listening and joining skills to discover and apply implicit messages about the relational nexus of which the problem is a part in order to join and create positive change.
Objectives of Education:
Show that you understand how to recognize the connection level element of signals hidden in how people explain their emotional and behavioral challenges.

Wendel A. Ray, Ph.D., is the Hammond Endowed Professor of Education and Professor of Family System Theory in The University of Louisiana-Marriage Monroe’s and Therapy Program (ULM). Dr. Ray, the former Director of the Mental Research Institute (MRI) in Palo Alto, California, and a former member of the MRI Brief Therapy Center and the MRI Strategic Family Therapy Project, is still an MRI Senior Research Fellow.
